So Prince William finally popped the question to his gal, and we’re once again in a global fan swirl over another British royal wedding. Whether you’re into this sort of thing or not, this coupling highlights some fascinating points about the life journey.
Can you imagine being Kate Middleton right now? (If you don’t know, she is Prince Harry’s newly announced fiancée). With one decision, she answered those three great life questions (the three Ws) I love to talk about, and she did it for both her personal life and her career:
What do you want to be? Future princess of Great Britain
Where do you want to be? Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Balmoral Castle, etc.
Who do you want to be with? The Windsor family, a member of www.royal.gov.uk
So here she is, having made her career and family decision all at once. And all because she met this guy in college.
Now I call that Royal Guided Drift if ever I saw Guided Drift. As you may already know from reading this blog, Guided Drift is that willingness to plan and guide your life, while being open to opportunities that come your way.
Now you may argue that becoming a member of the British royal family is not necessarily an opportunity. But it is a career. No mistake about that. And this is a career that encompasses every aspect of your life. So let’s hope, for their sake, that they have a passion for the work.
It’s no wonder Kate has earned the reputation of “waity Kate” – speaking to how long it took her and William to make this decision. It makes me respect her even more. There is so much to consider, so much sacrificed, and so much of a difference you can make, if you take the job seriously.
Good for her for waiting! Guided drift took her into a love, a life and a career that she could never have imagined as a “commoner” in England. So this was a big decision, especially coming on the heels of the experience William’s mother, Dianna, had during her lifetime.
This is a terrific example of the importance of making a purposeful decision in the face of what life, and Guided Drift, can bring you. We have the opportunity to choose in every situation life brings us. And now Kate has the opportunity to learn from her predecessor, become a new kind of princess, and engage the world with good decision-making.
Let’s wish her luck. Meanwhile, like it or not, we’ll be hearing about the drama of which designer will be making her dress. Ever hopeful, maybe we’ll hear more about the causes they stand for and what they’ll make of their role in the world.
